Vintage Chess Set

I decided it was time to teach my kids chess. And of course I needed to teach them on a cool, vintage chess board. Etsy is the perfect place to shop for things like this.

There are so many beautiful, old chess sets on Etsy! What I found fascinating was that most of them were sold from sellers in Russia or Eastern Europe. Who can explain this to me? I know nothing about the origin of chess. My beauty was shipped from a seller in Sofia, Bulgaria.

I love the board with letters and markings. I wanted a set that was pretty enough that I could leave out all the time. The set is sitting on this really cool shabby table that I found at this year’s Luckett’s Spring Market. It needed a little work to make stable, but the chippy quality makes me so happy. I also found four little stools from Olde Thyme Marketplace to perfectly go with the table.

I have been stunned by the fact that Reid continues to beat me every time and he’s never played before. Must practice.

Master Closet Organization

Some of you may have read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. I did and went through the whole process about 2 years ago. I highly recommend it. I ended up donateing 20 bags of items!

Oh, how I heart a rainbow color-coordinated bookshelf like no other!!

Last Fall I finally organized my pantry cabinets and it took about 2 weeks and more money than I wanted to spend. But, totally worth the investment. Now if only I could get Reid to put the glass lid on the Goldfish crackers. Hopeless.

I feel like sometimes I do my best work when kids are home for the summer and we are all in chaos! I feel like cleaning and starting projects. So, that’s how I began my master closet clean out. Here are the super pretty trays that I found on Amazon! I love them.

Valdler Sackcloth Stackable Organizing Trays

EZOWear Foldable Bamboo Fabric Organizers

This is the crazy, hanging thing I used for years and I really needed to upgrade.

This tray business seems so much more clean & organized. I’m so pleased.

Bear approved.

White-Washing Tutorial on a FLAT surface now on YouTube

Hey!

Some of you mentioned that you could not see the video I posted last week of my personal update. Others were able to see it. I post all these on YouTube so you can just go to my channel or plug in Blue Egg Brown Nest on YouTube to see!

My White-Washing Tutorial is now up and what makes it a big different than my Weathered Wood Tutorial is that I did this technique on a flat, wood surface and it does work if you play with the paint. Originally, I thought you could only do the white-washed look w/ a textured wood like oak so that the paint would seep into the crevices and sit on the higher parts. I wanted to try the look on a smooth surface as I’ve shown here.

PS, the video is not edited and I showed most of my process so it’s a bit long FYI.

Here are some stills of the same transformation…
