…favorite things friday: architectural doormat

I heart the girls behind Antique Farmhouse and Decor Steals. They now have their very own site, Bits of Vintage, where you can purchase wares that are not a steal of the day, but a steal anytime. (They are not even paying me for this, I just love the products!)

Bits of Vintage has lots of fun decor, but also practical decor that makes a big statement. I know we do not often look at a doormat counting for anything, but what is the first thing that people see when they arrive at your door? I know I look at the door mat! I think sometimes we get distracted by colored mats with fun sayings or logos or we get trapped with thinking that a cheap-0 rubber mat will suffice. Hmm. If the doormat is a precursor to what is inside, don’t we want it to look stunning?

I bought my iron pineapple mat when we moved into our home. It was one of the first things i purchase because i wanted it to reflect the inside. Not only has it lasted 7 years and will probably last 77 more, but it is PRETTY! AND WE LIKE PRETTY, DON’T WE?!

Check out the one that they are selling at Bits of Vintage. Architectural Doormat found here for $49.50.

Beautiful! Makes me want to rub my shoes on it, ring the doorbell and come in for a cup of tea! xo

…favorite things friday: trunks

Let’s talk about trunks, Baby.

Some of you may have seen a recent Instagram post about my old suitcases that I stacked to make a mock side table. Whenever I go to a vintage shop I can’t help gravitating towards trunks and old boxes. I think because they are super interesting, but also functional.

If you can’t make it to a market or antique shop, there are so many great options out there now to do this very thing. Here are some examples.

PS – you don’t need to stack the suitcases, you could place once on a foyer table or under a couch or ahem, pew.

Small Room Design

…color question

“I too was blown away by this color. Just starting out with DIY Annie Sloan paints. I have lots of Shabby Chic furniture mostly white and more shabby than chic. Want to chic them up. I love your videos. What color would you call this? Does Annie have 1 comparable? Thank you!” – Constance

Why, yes. In my opinion the closest color to this would be Duck Egg Blue. It is actually a very versitile blue because it can work as a old, Sweedish neutral or a more traditional and/or contemporary color depending on the room design. Here are a few examples of Duck Egg Blue in my work and interiors.

Do not fear this color. It is your friend. It is my friend.
