…fall decor series: the mantel

I think many time decorating the mantel can feel daunting. Many of us have photographs or candle sticks or trinkets on our mantel. This is actually the perfect space for seasonal decor.

Three Tips:

1. Clean Slate. My first tip would be clear everything off! Then dust. Once you have a clean slate you can then think about what you would like to put there.

2. Anchor. Select a large, flat item to lean agains the wall. This will anchor the mantel and give your eye something to gravitate towards. This could be a mirror, a chalk board, a framed piece of artwork, a wreath, etc.

3. Layer Littles. Place smaller items in different sizes and shapes around the anchor piece. This could be candles or pumpkins. Select only a few styles of smaller items. Don’t go nuts or it will look cluttered. Less is more.

Let’s check out some pretty inspiration via Pinterest. Please forgive my water mark these are from PINTEREST!

…Antique Farmhouse Designer Pick!

I’m super excited to be selected as Antique Farmhouse‘s Designer Pick! I love this online shop, as you know. They offer so many vintage and antique replicas that you just cannot find in stores. I have been telling you how special it is for years. In fact, often times when I received their sale emails I think how hard I tried to find those very items years ago before they existed. The cottage/farmhouse style is actually attainable to us now!

The way the Designer Pick works is that I got to select one of Antique Farmhouse’s products to showcase in my home. I totally went for the Unique Double-Sided Scale Clock.

I heart when a product is multi-functional. It makes me feel like it is not just a pretty item taking up space, but a useful tool in my space. Here are several ways that I have used my Scale Clock!

A velvet pumpkin display could be used for my kitchen or any room in the house.

I placed the scale with real produce as well – gorgeous tomatoes!

Here is the clock even in my living room sitting on top of some design books. Blends perfectly, yes?

I have decided that the front foyer table will be the clock’s home for now. I love using it as a decorative catch all for keys and iphones. It’s perfect because I also know what time it is when I get home.

Of course, my favorite kind of decorating is one where my life becomes intwined. Ollie and Owen never miss a photo op!

Two cats, a clock and some old books. Just about perfect in my book.

…not a yardsale, just my front yard

My pastor gives short radio sermons called “Not a sermon. Just a thought.” You may have heard Lon Solomon on your radio before. As I walked out to my yard to see what my mover dropped off (after much ado) I can’t help but be a bit nervous that a)my hoarder neighbor will come take pieces or  b) people will slow down wondering about the yard sale.

Not a yard sale. Just my front yard.

I’ve turned into a crazy picker these last few weeks as i gear up for my space at Lucketts. I am probably going a bit overboard as every room in my house is going to be filled soon. Never the less, needing to get rid of stuff – vintage & antiques? email me: cbensten@blueeggbrownnest.com

And not to be overshadowed, kindergarten orientation happened an hour ago. It was a Xanex kind of morning for Mommy.
