…Blue Egg Brown Nest Colors: Great Room

March 19, 2013 by christen | 11 Comments

When we designed our home we knew we wanted the first floor to have a great room, meaning, a kitchen that expanded into a family room. It’s more open, communal, and I am able to keep track of those kids a bit better.

So, I had to pick a paint color that worked for a white, country kitchen and a cozy family room. Again, I used my Benjamin Moore squares.

I wanted an airy, light space, a color that flowed from the living room and one that I could decorate out from instead of being committed to. Bring in your color and texture in your items.

I actually just added these blue shutters to my wall for some more color. They were up for about 5 days before I decided to whitewash them. That was really fun albeit messy. I’ll post on what whitewashing is soon.

My Duck Egg Blue color plus a little orange.

Books to coordinate. And I always love a bit of green.

    Christen,
I love the flow through your home. The colors seem to create a calm feeling. I feel that the more permanent the surface the more neutral/classic it should be. The little things that you can add or take away are the easiest way the place color. If you plan your colors well moving things around from room to room is possible. That and use colors you love not just the latest fad.

I’m in awe of how you decorate! I so look forward to your posts. You’ve given me such great ideas for paint colors and plan to take a look at the BM colors this week as I have 5 colors paint blotches on my combination dining/living room walls now – and 5 pint size tubs of paint (what to do with those!?) I love decorating with architechural features and have worked out from my master bedroom into the dining/living room. Thanks again!

What a gorgeous home you have. I wonder where do you get all your decor accessories? I am going to Luckett’s this year any recomendations on quaint shops to visit.

I get them everywhere. Luckett’s is a great place to start. I will be selling at their Spring Market. Hope to see you there 🙂

I am repainting my living room/dining room and am looking for paint colors. I have brown couches and love the color you have in this living room – can you tell me the name of the paint color. It is so bright and it will make it so easy for me to add colors in.

    Thank you!!

What is the name of the fabric on your widow and where did you purchase it?
