…card love

I heart James Taylor. He ranks right up there with the Beatles for me. There are times when I don’t just love hearing his music, but I also start quoting it to myself.

“Shower the people you love with love.”

I think sometimes we are a bit shy to show our cards and let the people in our lives know that we think about them, care about them and want to spend time with them. But, if we don’t reveal ourselves just a little bit then how will they know? How will we become closer?

I received a card out of the clear blue from a dear college friend, Mary. I think it’s safe to say that Mary is one of the best story-tellers that I have ever heard. Great detail, lead up and always funny. She is a teacher at an all girls private school in DC with a roster of  interesting characters including granddaughter’s of presidents and all those nuns. I think she needs her own blog.

Getting a hand-written note is very rare these days, isn’t it? This one had an image of a nest, blue eggs and a lovely sentiment on the cover. This is part of what Mary wrote to me:

“Just want you to know that you inspire me to beautify my space and to push past the obstacles of motherhood to make the time and do it.”

Brings tears reading it again. I receive many lovely emails and posts similar to this and it just feels so…refreshing, uplifting, encouraging. Life is hard and draining. Motherhood is like the ultimate test of patience and will. Seriously. What if we all took a moment today to shower someone that we love with love. Just a quick note or email or stop in. We are all in this together, in the trenches, trying to make a happy life for ourselves and family.
