…christmas decor: buffet table

December 2, 2013 by christen | 4 Comments

So, I’m going to do a bit more entertaining this year because, well, I’m crazy. My youngest is also three and I think I can handle it a bit more. I also feel very blessed to have our home and the space to celebrate and be cozy with friends.

I started with my vintage olive crates. I put one on either end and a faux tree wrapped in burlap. This anchors my table and I just love the look.

I then order a boat load of mason jars. I’m talking about 8 crates worth in all sizes. I do prefer the wide-liped Ball jars. I wraped some of them in burlap with a ribbon and others with red & white string. In each one there are fresh cranberries and a tea candle.

I think green & red can work really well if you tone it down and try to use these hues that can be found in nature. You can see that I’ve integrated lots of natural textures and some browns. Cheese boards work great for a buffet setting to bring in that natural color wood.

You know I heart my bird nests and I use these green ones for winter and spring. It changes the look completely with a few faux cranberries.

IMG_3930 I own three of these chicken wire serving trays and use them for everything. I found them at William Sonoma a few years ago. They add texture and interest to my table. I also pulled out some of my Lenox plates from my wedding. Not sure if I’ll use them, but I like hint of elegance in there at the moment.

I pulled a bunch of accessories that I had around the house to create different heights. This carving came from my coffee table. I found it at Luckett’s over the summer.IMG_3737 A suitecase also for a different height.

The piece de resistance would be my Gram’s antique sled. She actually used it as a child and I love the rustic quality it adds. Ollie is in agreement.

    Beautiful display!!! Absolutely love entertaining!
So quick question about AS . . .I painted my kitchen table (a thirty year old Hitchcock pedestal table) . . . and not super pleased with the wear . . .painted, waxed and buffed but really not sure if it can handle a family a of five’s wear and tear! Should I redo??? Maybe have glass cut for the top? Even where feet leaned against the pedestal, it left marks and those were just socks no shoes . . . absolutely love the choice of colors with AS but just not so sure about how it will hold up. Any ideas???
    Look forward to hearing!
