“It’s coming on Christmas. They’re cutting down trees. Putting up reindeer singing songs of joy and peace.” – Joni Mitchell
(I heart Joni Mitchell. If you don’t know this sons look it up right after this post. It’s called River and it’s one of my very favs.)
So, don’t blame me, blame the retail shops that have starting selling holiday decor before Thanksgiving is even here! That being said, my motto with three kids is don’t put off until tomorrow what you can get done today because chances are you will always run out of time!
I don’t have my tree yet, but I have been collecting some decor. I started with the entry. I think whether you have a large entry or a tiny one, it’s always an opportunity to welcome your guests into your home in a warm & inviting manner.
I started in the front. I knew I wanted to change out my green, fig branches for something red and berry. I found these great birch branches with berries at Stylish Patina. Kelly was sweet enough to hold 12 for me. What do you think, Kelly? FYI – the table was done in Cece Caldwell.
Target is selling non-breakable ornament balls by the bulk. I filled this old bird cage with gold ones.
Then I ran around my house collecting all my old red books. It was like a treasure hunt. The sheepskin is FAUX and came from my bedroom ottoman. I wanted to give the impression of snow.
Antique ironestone with faux berries.
I definitely needed a few birds and cardinals & burlap birdies were perfect.
I bought about 6 crate of all different sizes of mason jars. I sprinkled them on every surface around my house and dropped in a little tea candle. I’m planning on adding some fresh cranberries for color as well.
I would recommend choosing only a few colors per vignette. I think with Christmas decor it’s easy to go nuts. Try to edit as you go so it doesn’t look like an explosion of holiday color. Less is more.
Use what you have. Look around your space to see what could work in your holiday scene. Kane is not impressed, but his collar matched my table so I let him observe.
Love it! It looks great! The table is beautiful. You have a price tag hanging down off of something in your cage (not being critical, just noticed it in one of the pics!) can’t wait to see how you decorate the rest of the house!
I LOVE it!!!! You are so far ahead of me with the decorating 🙂 looks beautiful as always:-s0
Cheers — kelly
Your Christmas decor looks beautiful, but I really love that old wooden ladder in the background! I have been looking for one just like that. Going to a great flea market this weekend and hope to find one!
