…creating comfort in your nest: a vintage cup of tea

December 31, 2013 by christen | 7 Comments

Maybe you are struggling with a physical injury right now or maybe you are going through a divorce. Maybe you are not content at work. Maybe you are waiting for your body to become pregnant and it’s not. Maybe you are looking for someone to share your life with. Maybe you child is suffering.

“In this world there will be suffering,” God said. “But take heart, I have overcome the world.” Such good news that it gives me goosebumps just typing it! Thank God, God.

I do believe Love wins in the end, but what about in between? What about the waiting period? What about the wait we have to endure before he comes to our rescue. I’ve learned that God moves kinda slow. Weren’t the Isrealites treking through the desert for about 40 years? Wasn’t I crying hourly for a baby and it took 3 years and treatment to get pregnant with my first child? And how long must we wait for Game of Thrones to come back?! Geez.

Little comforts help. So does tea.

If you are not a tea drinker, I encourage you to become one. I have found such relaxation in a steamy cup of tea in a beautiful mug. It has become a moment to pause, to sit, to care for yourself for just a few minutes. I try to drink at least 3 cups a day as a sign to give myself a little break from kids and laundry and email and painting. It hot so you have to drink it slow without abandoning it to go clean out the cat litter and break up a fight over who gets to use the purple crayon first because cold tea DOES NOT WORK.

I also swear by their medicinal atributes. I have had a cup of Ecinacea tea ever day since winter began and have not gotten a cold. I drink ginger when my tummy is upset. I drink fennel when my face & fingers feel puffy. Detox after a weekend of treats. I definitely drink the Stress one every day! Of course, the upside is also that there are no calories and so no guilt. What else can promise that. Not much.

I also insist that you drink all tea in a delicate, antique ceramic tea cup. Okay, I’m totally kidding, but it does make it taste better.

PS – Thank you for listening to me during my time of healing. Still feeling crummy, but I’m going to get back to paint, design inspiration & answering all your question so keep ’em coming! xo

    Christen,

I am in total agreement with the healing powers of tea. Being born and raised in England has nothing to do with it! lol. Anyway, my Auntie Frannie says “there is NOTHING that a cup of tea wont help” I live by those words. I’m glad you are healing and taking the time to let yourself heal. Don’t rush back to work for us, we’ll be waiting patiently for you to get better. I’ll just have a lovely cuppa whilst I do so.

So true. My mom’s side of the family is from England and they drink hot tea constantly….even on the hottest days in July. Everytime I call her with a complaint, an ache or pain or just feeling blah her advice is….”go have a cup of tea”. Prayers for continued healing and comfort!

I’m a coffee drinker, but when I’m not feeling well, or I need comforted, or I just want to feel a little elevated, I drink tea. I love coffee, but the making and drinking of tea is special. Peace be with you, beautiful Christen. Good health and happiness in the New Year.

I’m a tea drinker, too, and love all its benefits. And I love your Keep Calm And Make Tea poster! May I copy it for my own use, or is it copyrighted? Thanks.

Hated to hear what happened to you! Hope you are feeling better soon. 🙂 I wanted to share something with you that I learned from my Annie Sloan stockist the other day. You were wanting to paint something black for someone and you ended up using CeCe Caldwell paint. My stockist adds Mixol to her paints. It is a pure pigment and a little goes a long way. She added tobacco Mixol to Coco and it made the prettiest brown! You could mix the black Mixol with Graphite to get a true black.
    Stephanie 🙂

What do you think is the best way to clean the daily grease off of kitchen cabinets before painting them? Do not even think of answering this question until you feel up to getting back to your work!!! Just putting it in you que of questions!! Love, light, and healing to you!
