…favorite things friday: the extra-large leaning mirror

June 28, 2013 by christen | 5 Comments

One of my very favorite wedding presents was a gift from DH’s Aunt Gayle & her hubby that designed the coolest furniture (yes, I’m blessed to be surounded by creative family members!) They owned a company called Urbano out of Miami and their most popular retail location was Crate & Barrel. You know the pieces that she designed – the metal & copper top tables, large mirrors, metal coffee tables, etc. They shipped the largest mirror I’ve ever seen to our home and was a staple in our family room.

It was one of Greta’s favorite past times during her first years.

Baby Greta & the mirror.

What I love most about large mirrors is that they really open the room up and a small space can seem twice as big with the reflection of natural light coming from some windows.

The second thing I love is that it is a real statement piece.

Large mirrors can be a great alternative to expensive wall art.

I can never leave well enough alone & opted for more light in my favorite place. DH is still getting used to the scale.

Of course I reserve the right to paint it in the future 🙂

    Hi Christen,

My house is beautiful, but small. My friends and I have commented many times about getting a mirror like these to open up some of my rooms. These are beautiful and if I was as cute as your Greta (amazing blue eyes and chubby cheeks) I’d be standing in front of the mirror, too!

    Christin,

I just wanted to warn you that this can be very dangerous for small children. My grandson pulled a large heavy mirror that was propped against a wall over onto himself . Thank goodness the mirror did not break because it caught on a nearby piece of furniture but it was very frightening. After that happened I secured the mirror to the wall.
