So many places to visit. The whole of the south coast – Dorset, Hampshire, Devon and Cornwall is beautiful. Then there is the Cotswolds and another favourite is the Lake District. So much to choose from xxx
Oh,Christen! How wonderful! You should take the express train from London to York. York is amazing, and the views on the train are idyllic. Another great town is Brockenhurst. Wild ponies and thatched cottages abound!
Happy Birthday!-thank you for your posts and inspiration! When you visit us in the UK you must travel to beautiful North Yorkshire and the dales-undoubtedly that’s where the photo you have was taken –its a must to find unspoiled, traditional English countryside.
I loved Bath when we visited it on a day tour from London. It was idyllic and has it all – ruins, beautiful architecture, quaint pubs, and spas!
My daughter loved Shakespeare’s home!

I vote for Chester (dating back to the Roman Empire and you can still walk the Roman Walls) , Bath (I’ve actually never been but its beautiful and I’m planning a weekend away there myself) or the Lake District (close to my place of birth … I’m biased but its just stunning).

I’d go to York for its history – it’s a lovely old walled city. However if it’s countryside and quaint cottages that you want, then stay within one of the national parks. My favourites are the lake district, North York moors and the Yorkshire dales.

Happy birthday all my love on your special day. Come to somerset in the west country its very under rated but we have the most beautiful countryside. Another reader said about bath it is lovely but we also have the famous stonehenge and wells cathedral is the smallest in england but its so beautiful. We also have fab national trust places ( open manor houses ). And the quantocks(stunning open woodland) there are so many places to choose from you’ll probably need 3 yrs to decide lol.
My first choice for you would be to get to Chester, the walled city near Wales. The Cotswolds are most beautiful too, and next choice would be Bath, Jane Austen’s town with lovely flowers and tea houses. St. Ives is a lovely place by the sea and right from the nursery rhyme and actually has palm trees if you visit in the summer and year for tropical ambience.
Also, I advise not to wait three years, or yearn for that special moment only to travel – try to go multiple times, as much and whenever you can! It could be challenging with children, however you don’t have to travel expensively or fancy – follow Rick Steve’s advice and priorities of travel and just go! It builds memories for the children and is such adventure. We traveled widely when our three children were your children’s ages. Happy Birthday!
Im not English but an Australian who was lucky enough to live in Berkshire UK for 3 years.There is so many beautiful places in England. My favourite is lunch or even just tea and cake at Lower Slaughter Manor in Lower Slaughter Cotswolds. Bourton-on-the-water is another very pretty Cotswolds town. Home of William Shakespeare is Stratford-upon-Avon for beautiful Tudor buildings and history. Salisbury has a beautiful cathedral and town and you can also see Stonehenge as its not far away. Henley is famous for its regatta on the Thames. Windsor is good for shopping after you’ve seen WIndsor Castle and The Long Walk. Liverpool has great shopping and wharf – this town was fun for me as I have l aways loved the Beatles – we did the Magical Mystery bus tour and of course had an ale in the Cavern. Im sure you will have a wonderful birthday in England.

I met my dh in York, he is an Englishman living in the USA now and I lived in London while in college and went back again about 6 years ago now. I def agree with York and the Moors and the Yorkshire dales as just beautiful country. I think its my favorite part of the country. My dh is from the NE and we also spent some time in Scotland and at the Borders, also grand landscape there in the highlands if you feel like a drive. I am v jealous and long to return. I love your pieces, we are playing with Annie Sloans paint and am afraid we are a little addicted!

Happy Birthday! If you are visiting England then you should visit the lovely villages in Devon and Cornwall, then, pop over the bridge to Beautiful Wales, which is full of Castles and Dragons. A Visit to Cardiff is a must and then a visit to the lovely town of Cowbridge, and then over the to the fabulous Gower and Pembrokeshire coastline to Tenby and Barafundle Bay. Visiting pretty little villages like Narberth on the way. I hope you are planning a long trip because there is so much to see !! You’ll be spoilt for choice. 🙂
