I am finally able to show you some of the updates that we did to our master bedroom this summer. Like most projects that DH and I get into, they are not small. We love a good project. It all started with a dumpster being delivered to our driveway in June. This is what our home looked like for the summer.
I got a bee in my bonnet about replacing the carpet in our bedroom with hardwood because of this. I cannot stand buckling carpet. Bad. Yes, we could have had it stretched, but we also had a dog in this house for a very long time and he loved lounging in here. Needless to say, the carpet suffered.
DH wanted to pull the carpet himself to save on time and money. It is a messy job. Good thing we had a capable helper.
I should mention that at the same time we were installing wood floors, we were also refinishing our main level wood floors and building a patio. That’s how we roll. Here’s a look.
Here is the after of the master. We are so super happy. I do think you need an area rug for a bit of softness and I was thrilled to find this one. It’s light in color, but I love the lattice print. When choosing an area rug don’t get sucked into a pretty print in a magazine. They can look great in a magazine, but that does not mean you can live with it in real life. Go a few shades more subtle even if you think it’s a bit boring. You don’t want the rug stealing the show! You want it to all work together to create a calm space.
I am not going to show you a wide shot until the end of the week. So stay tuned. I’ll show you some wall decor, lighting and fantastic mirrored nightstands I chose.

Looks great! I am also wanting to get rid of some carpeting in a couple of rooms and am trying to decide between doing hardwood or tiling with the wood-look tiles. Could you tell me why you decided on hardwood? Do you know the pros and cons of both? Thanks for any help you can give. Keep up the good work!
