…trending series: little black desk (lbd)

June 3, 2013 by christen | 2 Comments

I get such a kick out of opening my catalogues and seeing reproductions of vintage wares or accessories or even true vintage items themselves that have been around for forever and are now hitting the mainstream! It really just shows how a look can catch fire and become a trend. I find that I see it more seasonally as new items appear in retail shops and this summer is no exception. So, I thought I’d do a trending series on some of the now popular looks showing up.

Trending: to extend in a general direction : follow a general course; “currently popular.”

I feel like I’ve been seeing a ton of black desks and the more I see them the more I like them. I like the look of a cozy, dark office where one can just nestle down and do some work or read or do some serious online shopping 🙂

We painted our study a dark, coco color to create this feel. I knew I needed a desk, but was waiting until I found one that I really liked. I wasn’t sure what it was going to look like, but knew I wanted something dark.

Even though it a dark color, there is something warm about having a black desk in your office space. It is rich in color and a bit more serious in feel.

It translates into a space that can accomodate getting some work done as opposed to something light & airy that connotes relaxation. The curved lines & touch of gold leaf add elegance & class.

A little black desk (lbd) can even be a little sexy with this laquer look.

Of course, having a pop of color like this pink shows that you don’t have to take everything you work on super seriously. Love that.

I found my LBD at Luckett’s at the end of the day on Sunday. It is rubbed, has curved legs and some detail. Perfect for doing some writing.

Trending Series continues tomorrow!

What a great find – your new desk is beautiful! I love your style and would like to know more about how you’re going to incorporate the desk in your office. When you introduce a black piece of furniture to a space (such as your desk), do you also add black elsewhere in the room to tie it all together or do you want the furniture piece to pop as the only black element?
